Ahmed Abdo, the renowned Egyptian novelist and short story writer, has made significant contributions to the world of literature. Born in 1951 in the beautiful village of Barmekim in Sharqia governorate, Abdo is a member of the esteemed Egyptian Writers’ Union and the Cairo Story Club.
Abdo has published numerous collections of short stories, each of which is a masterpiece of its own. His works include “The Seventh Wall,” a collection published by the General Authority for Books in 1994, “Inscription in the Eyes of Moses,” which was published by Dar Al Islam in 2002, “Chinese Dogs,” published by the General Authority for Books in 2007, “Dug in the Depths,” published by the General Authority for Books in 2010, and “State of War,” published by the Silver Book Club in 2011. His latest offerings include “The Adventure of the Black Manganese” and “The Générale of Sayyidna Al-Hussein,” both published by Dar Al Adib for Publishing and Translation in 2023.
In addition to his short stories, Abdo has also authored several novels. “Revelations of the Dead Sea,” published by the Ministry of Culture, Asharqia Branch in 2006, “Foxes in Deversoir,” published by the Union Book and the General Authority for Books in 2010, and “Surrat Al Balad,” a series of novels published by Dar Al Islam in 2015, are among his notable works. His novel “Girls of April 6” was published by the Arwaqah Foundation for Printing, Publishing, and Translation in Cairo in 2019, and “From the Kangaroo’s Pouch,” a series of novels, was published by Dar Levant for Studies and Translation in 2022. His latest novel, “The Enamoured Demon-Possessed,” was published by Yemeni Anaween Books in 2022.
Abdo’s literary prowess has been acknowledged with several awards, including the Story Club Award in 2002, the Al-Nasr Magazine Award in War Literature in 2003, the Ehsan Abdel Qudoos Award for the Novel in 2006, the Al-Jumhuriya Newspaper Award for the Short Story in 2009, the Association of Veterans in War Literature Award in 2010, and the Al Masaa Newspaper Award for the Short Story in 2012.
